Damage in Jamaica

Disaster Relief for Hurricane Dean in Jamaica

Virginia Baptists will be working with the Jamaica Baptist Union to repair the roofs of houses and churches that were damaged by Hurricane Dean.  Initial funding has been provided to repair about eight houses and one or two churches.  Four or five teams of 6-10 volunteers will be needed for these projects. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Nichole Bulls at Nichole.Bulls@vbmb.org or 800.255.2428 x. 7274 or Terry Raines at Terry.Raines@vbmb.org 800.255.2428 x. 7322.

Individuals or churches can sponsor additional roof repair projects in Jamaica.  The cost of materials is approximately $750 for a house roof and approximately $2000 for a church roof.

Damage in Peru

Disaster Relief for the Earthquake in Peru

In response to the earthquake in Peru, Virginia Baptists will be providing assistance in the city of Chincha, focusing on two impoverished communities that have been only minimally reached with aid to this point.  We will be sending two mobile feeding kitchens that are capable of serving two meals per day to a total of 500 persons (300 in one community and 200 in the other).  We will also be providing enough soy beans to produce two cups of soy milk each day per person, ten water filtration buckets to provide potable water, and approximately thirty tents to provide shelter for the most needful families.

Two one-week teams have already volunteered to work side by side with Peruvians living in these communities.  Additional donations would enable these disaster relief ministries in Peru to be extended beyond two weeks.  If you would like to contribute, the cost for food and soy beans is about $2000 per week and the cost of tents is about $150 per family.
